Brewing kilju [ ]
Kilju recipe is written in Finnish on the side of a sugar bag.
Sugar wine (kilju) brewing is an activity in My Summer Car. Kilju can be consumed by the player or it can be sold to Jouko at his house which is near Livaloinen’s house, or his new house if the player has helped him move.
Kilju is stored and transported inside plastic juice cans. After being sold to the drunk guy, they can be picked up from the landfill site.
Brewing process [ ]
In order to brew kilju, the player will need to buy some yeast and sugar from Teimo’s shop. The player should also purchase some juice concentrate and drink all of it to get the empty cans. The brewing bucket that can be found in the cabin on the small island in the lake is also required for the brewing process. The kilju recipe can be found on the side of a sugar bag. The recipe is in Finnish, and it says:
Kilju recipe: 5 parts water, 1 part sugar, 1 packet yeast. Pour the sugar in the brewing bucket, add water and yeast. Close the lid. Kilju is ready after the bubbling ends.
The bucket is 30 litres, so the optimum recipe includes 6 bags of sugar and 1 packet of yeast.
Drop the sugar and yeast packets into the brewing bucket and move the bucket under the tap in the shower, or submerge it in the lake. Fill the bucket with water and be careful not to tip the bucket or all of the kilju can spill out all over the floor. Put the lid on to the bucket and make sure a bubbling sound can be heard soon after. Do not remove the lid for long amount of time during the fermentation process, or vinegar will develop. Once a brown substance appears at the top you only have a short amount of time before vinegar will start developing.
The kilju is ready when the bubbling stops and there is a brown mixture at the bottom. This will take a couple of days as the bubbling sound slowly decreases in frequency until the bubbling stops. When the kilju is ready, open the lid and dip the empty juice cans in the brewing bucket. Alternatively, the brewing bucket itself can be lowered over (without tipping) an empty can to fill it up. 20 juice containers are required to fully empty the bucket.
It will be ready in approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes (real life time).
Selling kilju [ ]
A bucket of kilju being transported in the van.
Kilju can be sold to Jokke. He is outside his home between 06:00 and 22:00 daily. Kilju can be transported with any vehicle that has enough space for the cans.
To sell the kilju, place a kilju bottle on the table next to the drunk guy and wait for him to taste the product. After tasting he’ll hand out money. Proceed to put kilju bottles on the table one by one and take the money from drunk guy. It is not necessary to take the money after each bottle – the amount of money in his hand increases every time a container is placed on the table despite the fact that he never appears to reach for more money.
Jouko showing distaste to kilju.
Depending on how well the kilju is brewed, the player will be paid a varying sum of money (if at all). The highest sum the player can be paid is 170 mk per can. Therefore, the maximum amount of money that can be earned from a bucketful of kilju is 3,400 mk for 20 cans. Using five packs of sugar instead of six results in a weaker brew which will only be worth 130 mk per container.
The player will need 6 packs of sugar costing 6.95 mk each (41.7 mk), 1 yeast packet costing 8.95 mk, and 20 juice concentrate cans costing 12.95 mk each (259 mk), for a total cost of 309.65 mk.
After the kilju is sold, it will appear at the landfill site as empty plastic cans. If you have sold a lot of kilju and your game is lagging, you should try putting some of them in the garbage disposal pit.
A total of 3,400 mk can be earned by selling all 20 bottles of kilju to Jouko, netting a profit of 3,090.35 mk. Retrieving the empty juice containers from the landfill site eliminates the cost of the juice—the largest single expense—resulting instead in a profit of 3,349.35 mk for 20 bottles.
You may attempt to cheat Jouko by letting him try good kilju with the first bottle, but the rest you put on the table can just be water-filled juice bottles. He will not notice immediately that you’ve fooled him and pay for the bottles in full. Doing this, however, will later enrage Jouko and cause him to slash the Satsuma’s Tires, which will then need to be replaced by Fleetari. If you do not have any tIres bolted to the Satsuma, he will not come, making it a viable strategy until you get the tires from the mansion. The system works by checking to make sure all the bottles you sell to Jokke are from the same batch of kilju. If they are not, he will come no matter whether they are of the same quality or not. Sold kilju bottles should teleport to the Landfill site and become empty plastic cans, but sometimes they remain as kilju bottles.
If you accidentally make a batch of bad kilju, you can just put the kilju bottles on the table as normal. Even though Jokke isn’t going pay for the them, he will still «accept» them, and they will respawn at the landfill site as empty bottles. This relieves you from having to empty them yourself.

The story
Part of the intro sequence.
The story of the player character begins on the backseat of the Satsuma, where he is brought into the world by his mother in 1976 (exact date depends on the day you start a new game). An intro sequence depicting this moment plays when a new game is started: as the song Porilaisten marssi plays, the screen zooms out and eventually shows a top-down view of the car and a yellow title reading «SUOMI FINLAND 1976 [first name] was born» appears.
After the intro, the game jumps to the year 1995 which makes the main character 18–19 years old (again, depends on what day you started a new game). Little else is established about the main character other than that he is male.
The note from the parents.
The main character is living with his parents in Kesselinperä, but the parents are absent. Their absence is explained on a note seen on the fridge door after starting the game.
In Finnish the note says: |
---|
Tuumma Suomee sitte ku alakaa Teneriffa tympiä! |
Terveisin äippä ja issäis» |
Which translates to: |
---|
«Don’t slack if someone orders firewood to be delivered. Fix your dad’s old car or we’ll take it to the scrapyard because it has been filling up the garage for years now. Your dad says if you repair the car and make it pass the inspection, you can keep it. You can borrow your uncle’s van if you need to go run some errands. |
If you visit the cottage, make sure the sauna stove and fireplace are put out. |
Don’t get drunk and remember to clean up if you make a mess! |
We will return to Finland when Tenerife gets boring! |
Best wishes mom and dad» |

Family [ ]
The player character has some family living in Alivieska, though most of them are either absent or dead. The player character, their parents, and uncle live on a peninsula called Kesselinperä which is named after the family surname, Kesseli. The player character’s family is a large part of the game’s story.
Mother [ ]
The player’s mother giving birth to him, as seen via modifications
Almost nothing is known about the player character’s mother, apart from the obvious fact that she gave birth to him, partly seen in the intro. She is the one who wrote the fridge note, as the player character’s father is mentioned in the third person. She is likely a daughter of Kesselis but changed her name when she got married.
Father [ ]
The player character’s father is the owner of the Satsuma and is most likely driving it during the intro sequence. He is also mentioned by the player character’s grandmother; she says that she is surprised he didn’t become an alcoholic after not being picked for the national skiing team for the Olympics.
Grandmother (Sirkka Kesseli) [ ]
The player character’s grandmother, Sirkka, lives in a modest house by the railroad tracks in the southern part of Alivieska. She says she’s spent 78 summers in Finland, which means that she is at least 78 years old, and possibly older as she might be referencing living in independent Finland for that long. She will relate various things about the region and its inhabitants if one has the patience to listen.
Grandfather (Valto Kesseli) [ ]
The player character’s grandfather, Valto, is mentioned once by Sirkka, who says that he changed completely after returning from the war, becoming an alcoholic and eventually dying because of it. He also built the house where Sirkka currently lives.
Cousin (Pena Kesseli) [ ]
The player character’s cousin, Pena, is a drunkard who can be found driving around the dirt roads of Alivieska in his green Fittan. Not much else is known about him, apart from the fact that he is very friendly to the player character, giving him a free ride whenever they need one.
Uncle (Toivo Kesseli) [ ]
Friends [ ]
In addition to the family, the player character has some friends living in Alivieska. Some of them are friends of the family, while others might be complete strangers to the player character. They help extend the story of the game even further.
Drunk hitchhiker (Jokke Ollevi) [ ]
The drunk hitchhiker, dubbed Jokke, is a person who most likely gets introduced to the player character by a phone call. He is involved in many of the player character’s exploits, but the most notable involvement comes from him calling the player character for a ride home. He will drunkenly reveal some information about his life while driving to his house, most notably the fact that he seems to be very unsatisfied with his marriage. Further story development will occur once the player character has become good friends with him by driving him home multiple times.
Shopkeeper (Teimo Pielinen) [ ]
The shopkeeper, Teimo, is a very close friend of the family, although he seems somewhat cautious about the player character and his shenanigans. He is the owner of the shop and pub in Peräjärvi and appears to be very content with his life. He lives in a small house on the outskirts of Peräjärvi with his wife, Irma.
Firewood buyer (Mr. Livaloinen) [ ]
A man who buys firewood can be found living in a house in the eastern part of Alivieska. He appears to be a friend of the player’s parents, as he is mentioned in the note on the fridge door. Not much else is known about this man, though the bottle that he constantly holds implies that he is also an alcoholic.
Farm Guy (Mr. Tohvakka) [ ]
Tohvakka has a big farm near Peräjärvi. He calls the player by Phone about the haybale job, because he cannot work anymore after he had his heart attack. He calls one more time when he wants his Arvo-Algotson 3000 combine harvester back.
Haybales my summer car
Chirch.

The Kekmet is based on a Finnish Valmet 502. The Valmet name comes from Valtion Metallitehtaat (lit. State’s metal factories).
The tractor uses fuel oil or diesel fuel. The grey fuel filler cap can be found on the right side in between the operator cabin and forklift arm. The fuel tank can hold up to 65 liters of diesel.

7. Front hydraulics | 16. No function |
8. Rear hydraulics | 17. No function |
9. Hand brake | 18. No function |
The Kekmet has several levers in the cabin. Next to the steering wheel on the right, there’s the hand throttle (1). The hand throttle is used to manually set a certain level of the throttle, which is convenient for operating the rear hydraulics. Holding the left mouse button opens the throttle (increases engine speed) while the right mouse button closes it.
The diff lock (4) is the pedal to the right under the seat on the floor. When activated, the differential lock forces both rear wheels to rotate at the same speed regardless of differences in traction between them. This causes the wheel with better traction to receive more of the available power (in the form of torque) and apply it to the driving surface. This can be useful for maneuvering across difficult terrain, where one wheel may leave the driving surface, but at the same time, it makes turning slower on level terrain (i.e., on roads).
On the far right side of the seat is the range selector (6) and it has two settings: low and high. The setting can be toggled with the R key by default. Low range gears are used to move in difficult terrain at slow speed (especially uphill) and to get moving from a complete stop, while high range gears are used on easier terrain, like roads, to achieve higher top speed.
Nearer to the right side of the seat is the front hydraulic lever (7). Holding the left mouse button raises the forklift and holding the right mouse button lowers it.
Under the seat to the left is the rear hydraulic lever (8). This lever has three settings that apply (at the moment) only for the trailer: down, neutral and up. The lever is operated by the left and right clicks. The engine must be revved up in order to raise or lower the trailer, either with the accelerator pedal or by using the hand throttle.
The hand brake (9) is the hook-like lever on the left side of the seat near the floor. It functions similarly to the other hand brakes. Holding left click activates the brake and holding right-click releases it.
Abandoned Kekmet is standing outside the Fleetari shop.
Ignition procedure [ ]
The tractor cannot be idled, attempting to do so will cause the engine to stop. The hand throttle (1) needs to be pulled towards the seat before starting the engine with the ignition button (14). Turning the tractor off is simply a case of pushing the hand throttle away from the seat until idle slows and the engine shuts off.

The Jonnez is a 1984 model.
Jonnez ES is a moped/minibike which has been modelled after the Suzuki PV 50. It has a top speed of 70km/h and has four gears. The real Suzuki PV 50 is equipped with a 50cc cylinder kit, however, Jonnez ES is tuned. It has an 80cc cylinder kit, an aftermarket air filter, 20mm carburetor and power exhaust. It runs on two-stroke fuel, which can be bought at Teimo’s shop. The Jonnez is equipped with a small rack on the rear which can support one item up to 30kg in weight, including shopping bags. Heavier items will affect the performance and handling of the bike so keep this in mind.
The name comes from the Finnish term «mopojonne», which means a teenager who drives a moped and drinks energy drinks, with the Euro Shopper energy drink, or «ES» for short, being one of the most popular. It is the first vehicle in the game that can be picked up by the player. It can be very useful to put it in another vehicle, and if something happens with it (running out of fuel, the car breaks down, etc.), the bike can be used to get to where the player needs to go.
The Jonnez is a very versatile vehicle, useful for completing small shopping runs and errands (especially on Saturdays and Sundays during the rally). The rack on the back is perfect for shopping bags and/or bottles of oil etc. An alternative use of the Jonnez is to leave it at the Church graveyard so the player can quickly get home or to their wrecked car if the player is killed without having to rely on the bus or a lift from Pena.
The moped’s texture can be changed by editing the » jonnez_template.png » file in the » */My Summer Car/Images » folder, then saving it as » jonnez.png «.

Starting and operating [ ]
Upon starting a new game, the Jonnez ES is fueled by default. The bike has to be stood up to be able to drive it, the kickstand will help with this. If the bike has fallen, approach it from the seat side of the bike and the player will bend down and place it vertically. Get on the bike by walking into it and pressing the enter driving mode key ( ⏎ by default.) On the left of the bike will be the fuel tap.
Once the fuel tap has been opened, the player can look down toward the kick-starter and (using left mouse button) click when the on-screen text appears. If the bike has not been started for a while or the player has saved, the kick-starter will take up to 5 or 6 kicks to get it going. If the bike stalls, restarting it usually only takes one kick. When changing to first gear, the player should still be holding the throttle key as changing to first gear while stationary and without holding the throttle will stall the bike.
After that, it can be driven almost like a normal car. Press L or the button on the left handlebar to turn on the lights. Like most mopeds or scooters, the higher the RPM, the brighter the headlights are. To turn the engine off, there is a kill switch on the right handlebar.
Handling [ ]
The Jonnez ES handles very well, taking jumps and landing flawlessly, and turning very well. When braking and turning, the bike tends to flip on its side and slide towards the direction the player was trying to turn. Because of this, take sharp turns with caution. Alongside that, when taking off, traction can be poor from the first gear being the most powerful gear. Try to take off in a somewhat straight line while in first gear.

Jouko’s drop-off point.
Jouko «Jokke» Ollevi (a.k.a the drunk guy or drunkman) is the person that may call the player at night (02:00) to take him from the pub and drive him to his home. He will pay the player between 50 mk to 3,000 mk at the goal. His house is located on the eastern side of the map, between Loppe and the firewood man’s house. It is possible to pick him up with the Satsuma, Hayosiko, Ferndale, and Ruscko.
This man can be knocked down if the player walks into him, and his limbs (legs, torso, arms, thighs, hands, etc.) can be moved by clicking and dragging, just like Jani, Petteri, Pena or other NPCs when knocked out.
Contents
Kilju [ ]
Jouko also buys kilju from the player at various rates depending on the quality of the stuff, the highest sum for a single canister being 170 mk. As it takes a few days for the fermentation process to happen, and one full batch being enough to fill 20 juice canisters, the most cash that can be made off him in one go is 3,400 mk.
Exploiting him by selling kilju bottles filled with water after giving him one bottle filled with good kilju will result in him calling the player, saying that he knows he’s been swindled. This will cause Jouko to slash the Satsuma’s tires and «slash» (unbolt) the brake linings, which then need to be replaced and bolted back in. This can be done by taking the tires to Fleetari’s repair shop and selecting a set of tires.
Do not leave the bucket full of kilju at his place. He will drink the kilju and leave the bucket empty without paying.
New house [ ]
After Jouko has been taken home five times and at least 2 hours and 46 minutes of real-time has passed, he will call the player, requesting help with moving his furniture to his new house in Peräjärvi. Once all of his furniture has been moved, Jouko will hand out a sizeable sum of money, and kilju can be sold to him once again, but he will stop calling you to drive him home (because his new house is right near the pub).
The suitcase [ ]
Giving him a ride for the fifth time, Jouko reveals that he is in fact a millionaire and has hidden a suitcase filled with cash somewhere near the lake.
Finding and keeping the suitcase will cause Jouko to try to murder the player in their sleep with an ax. He can be neutralized by punching him or running him over with the Satsuma, Hayosiko, or the Gifu. Sleeping in a place other than the bed at the player’s house will also prevent him from attacking.
Consequences [ ]
After Jouko has attempted to murder the player, he will vanish. While trying to find out what happened to him, the player might come across a note pinned to the door of his old house with an ax; it is a note saying that it was his fault, he lost it all, and that everyone will have it easier now. His fate can be revealed by driving over to the concrete bridge by the river.
Quotes [ ]
«Let’s see how good sugar wine this is. « «Very good sugar wine! I love this, strong as hell! I pay well for this.» «I taste little bit yeast in this. « «This tastes like water and piss, I want alcohol, not this mess. «

Hayosiko standing next to Uncle’s house
Uncle Kesseli is the player’s uncle. He is a fat man (presumed to be in his 40s, maybe early 50s), with glasses, mustache, and an orange GIFU hat. Uncle Kesseli is also a heavy smoker, and coughs a lot. He is also highly likely to suffer from alcoholism. He is found either inside his house in Kesselinperä, drunk/passed out at the Pub or sitting outside.
Uncle Kesseli is implied to have held at least two jobs, as shown by his ownership of the Hayosiko van, which bear liveries indicating its use for contractual carpentry, and the Gifu pump truck, which is used to pump sewage from septic tanks around Peräjärvi in Alivieska.
Borrowing vehicles [ ]
The player’s first interactions with Uncle Kesseli involve the ability to borrow his Hayosiko van. In the beginning, the player is told via his parents’ note that Uncle Kesseli’s «blue van» can be loaned to the player to run errands. To trigger the van’s appearance, the player must first install at least one of three parts on the Satsuma: the driver seat, the engine block or left trail arm. An internal timer then counts down real-time for anywhere between 30 minutes to 1.5 hours (as defined by the «UncleTime» variable, which is designated a random value between 0 to 3000 seconds upon starting a new save), after which Uncle Kesseli is visually indicated to be at home with his van spawning in front of his house, which is visible from the windows of the kitchen or living room in the player’s house. The player can then repeatedly knock on the door of the uncle’s house until he answers, confirms that the van could be loaned and lends the player the van’s key. Do note that it seems that he mostly only shows up at night when he is not working. Once borrowed, the van can only be temporarily used, as the van eventually despawns (if the player sleeps or distances themselves too far from the van) if the player does not already personally return the van to the uncle. As the player now has the key at all times, the player may take the van again whenever it respawns in front of the house without needing to knock on the uncle’s house door; knocking on the door will prompt him to open the door, speechless, before closing the door.
After a further period of time, the player may find Uncle Kesseli lounging, shirtless, outside his house in the day, and may join him for a drink and a talk. Eventually, Uncle Kesseli will indicate, with little regret or disappointment, that his driver’s license was revoked for being caught speeding, losing his ability to drive his van and his Gifu pump truck to earn a living. The uncle will then offer the pump truck’s key, which is left hanging on the key rack in his house’s entrance hallway, for the player to perform septic tank jobs for extra income. Once the key is taken, the player has driving privileges for the truck, which has been parked at the waste processing plant since the start. While the van is not mentioned in the conversation and is not present at Uncle Kesseli’s house, the player could also permanently acquire the van by locating it by a vacant store adjoining the Lindell inspection shop; the van can also be taken from that location slightly earlier before the player learns of the uncle’s loss of his driver’s license.
It is strongly advised not to fill the Hayosiko with fuel oil until after Uncle Kesseli loses his driver’s license, as he will call the player on the telephone about receiving a large fine from the police and being forced to sell the Gifu to pay for it, locking the player out from using the truck indefinitely.
Location [ ]
Uncle Kesseli on the ground dragged off of the table in Pub Nappo
Besides being inside his home, Uncle Kesseli may be found outside sitting on a lawn chair shirtless with a case of beer. Like Sirkka, he will not sit outside when the sky is overcast or raining, and the player can sit next to him and converse. Uncle Kesseli has a bad reputation with players for not spawning at home for days or even weeks on end. Sometimes, his van might be at the sewage facility without any fuel. Other times, he’s nowhere to be found. Keep in mind that his spawn is randomized and that he has his own timer on when he’ll spawn.
Uncle Kesseli can also be occasionally found passed out and drunk at Pub Nappo at night.

Map of the septic tanks locations
One of the owners patiently waiting for the player in the dead of night during thunderstorm
The player can pump septic tanks with the Gifu, a vacuum truck that is located outside the Sewage plant in Peräjärvi. You will need to obtain the keys from Uncle Kesseli at his house before being able to drive it. Its primary use is pumping raw sewage from people’s homes around the map.
The Gifu will at first be at the Wastewater treatment plant. So using the moped to get to the truck and put in the cab might be a good idea.

Getting a pump job [ ]
A pump job can be started when one of the owners, after their septic tank becomes almost full, has called the player’s phone and requested it to be emptied. After answering the call, the location will be marked with a dart on the map above the phone. Multiple septic tank jobs may be marked on the map at the same time.
Tank owners will patiently wait for you day and night in any weather to come and empty their septic tanks. If you haven’t answered the phone call, there won’t be anyone waiting even though septic tank looks full. You can still pump the tank out if there is no one around, but you won’t get paid.
Doing the pump job [ ]
The truck can hold 10000 liters of waste or just over four houses’ worth. The waste must be dumped at the wastewater treatment plant in Peräjärvi. Dumping waste illegally will result in a fine, delivered to the mailbox at home. The value of the fine is derived from a combination of the amount of waste dumped and the player’s earnings (see below). Fleetari will eventually give the player a call and ask him to do some vandalism. This still counts as illegal dumping and a fine will still be levied, but the player will earn some booze, Fleetari’s gratitude and an increase in his discount from 10% off to 40% off (which may or may not be worth it, depending on how much the player has earned so far and how much work they plan to have done on their car).
Shit economics [ ]
There are 5 septic tanks in the game. Slowly they fill with waste. This filling speed is not a constant, so they never become full simultaneously and it’s impossible to guess which of them become filled up first (if you have emptied them previously at about the same time). It usually takes about a work-week for them all to become full. Owners start to call you when waste level reaches 2450 L mark. As soon as you answer the call, waste flow will stop. Don’t worry, if you ignore the call tank won’t overflow. In fact, it’s waste level will never reach it’s full 2500 L capacity and, until you answer the call, waste level will fluctuate between 2450-2460 liters.
Interesting thing is that you can’t fully empty any of the tanks, presumably because some of the waste has solidified and can’t be pumped. Waste level will stop lowering at around 50 L mark no matter how hard you throttle. This yields you about 2400 L of waste per septic tank if you pump it out completely. As was mentioned above, tank owner will thank you and hand out the money as soon as you lower his waste level to 250 L mark. You can stop right away, without emptying the tank completely, and take the money. If you decide to stop at this moment, depending on your reaction time and pump speed, this will on average lower pumped waste amount to about 2300 L per tank (or even less if you are really that good). Payment will stay the same, no matter what.
Dumping waste at the treatment plant costs money: 1 mk for every 7 liters, but no less than 150 mk. I.e. you can’t pay less than 150 mk, even if you dump just 1 liter. This means that it’s in your best interest to hit pump switch as soon as possible because you will pay less at the plant increasing your profits.
Because Gifu has a terrible fuel consumption (about 10 times worse than Hayosiko) and emptying all the tanks involves traveling to Peräjärvi and back, stopping and maneuvering at treatment plant and every tank (and don’t forget fuel spent while pumping), fuel costs become non-negligible expense for this job.
Fuel-wise, this is the optimal route for doing 5-tank run:
This whole route, if done properly, takes a little more than 1/4 of Gifu’s 300 L fuel tank. When first receiving a Gifu keys from your uncle, Gifu will be parked at treatment plant with about 3/8 of a fuel tank. You can get to it on Jonnez, which you will then store in it’s cabin till the end of the route and use it to drive back home.
Of course you are welcome to modify above route however you like to suit your immediate needs, e.g. by taking a detour to visit your grandma or tow a wrecked car on the way to Fleetari, but this will lower your profits accordingly. Be creative.
Waste crime [ ]
If you are feeling good (or Fleetari asked you a favour) you can dump the crap wherever you want. But be warned that after you reload a game there will be a fine waiting for you in your mail box. This is a fine for your crimes (humorously named shitcrime internally). If you don’t pay it immediately when you get it from mail box or ignore it for some time, it will be added to a pile of other unpaid fines on your kitchen table.
Alivieska
Alivieska coat of arms as seen on the map.
Map of Alivieska region
Alivieska is the fictional municipality in which the events of My Summer Car take place. It has at least two major settlements: Alivieska and Peräjärvi.
Contents
Location of Alivieska [ ]
Numerous details in the game suggest that Alivieska is located somewhere in the region of Ostrobothnia.
By phone area code 08 (as seen on the side of the van) the municipality of Alivieska should be located somewhere in the former Oulu province in Finland. Current possible regions are North Ostrobothnia or Kainuu. However, the area codes starting with 0 were introduced in 1996 while the game is set in 1995.
The car inspection office has the postal code of 62311 (seen at the inspection certificate) which means that it’s actually a PO box, so the postal code of Peräjärvi is probably 62310. The village of Voltti in municipality of Kauhava in South Ostrobothnia has the same postal code.
Lake Peräjärvi and its surroundings resemble geographically Lestijärvi, a lake and municipality in Central Ostrobothnia.
People who have septic tanks speak with southwestern Finland dialect. This kind of dialect is spoken between Pori, Huittinen and Turku.
The name «Alivieska» is probably a parody of Ylivieska and Alavieska in North Ostrobothnia. Ylivieska translates as «High Vieska» and Alavieska as «Lower Vieska», yet there is no city of «Vieska». Alivieska would also translate as «Lower Vieska» or «Under Vieska».
Locations [ ]
Kesselinperä [ ]
Kesselinperä (lit. Kesseli’s end) is the name of the area surrounded by the lake Peräjärvi on three sides. Buildings in Kesselinperä consist of two houses, a woodshed, a dock, and a red barn. The dirt road leading to Kesselinperä from Loppentie intersection is about 1.6 km long.
Loppe [ ]
Loppe is a small area with a few houses, two septic tanks, a toilet to save the game, and Fleetari’s Repair Shop. It is in the north-east section on the map, and can be accessed from many different paths, such as the dirt road from the player’s home, the dirt road from Peräjärvi, and an exit leading off of the highway. There is also a dock.
Peräjärvi [ ]
Peräjärvi is the main urban area in the game. When entering, the player will pass the built-up area signs, which means that the speed limit is 50 km/h. The urban area is located on the shore of the lake Peräjärvi so there’s also a floating jetty for small boats.
Rykipohja [ ]
Rykipohja is the least populated area in Alivieska. It is located in the southwesternmost corner of the map, and can be reached via the dirt or asphalt roads. The most notable features of Rykipohja are the airfield where the player may partake in drag racing, and the landfill site where the player can throw away any empty containers and retrieve lost items.
Alivieska [ ]
Alivieska is the administrative centre of the municipality and it is located about 8 kilometres southeast from the town of Peräjärvi. It is not accessible in game. Not much is known about Alivieska urban area, apart from the fact that the municipal hall is located there, mentioned in the radio.
Others [ ]
Raittimaa is located 4 km southwest of Peräjärvi, beside a large unnamed lake, which is visible in game, although Raittimaa itself is not. Lukka is located 7 km east from Peräjärvi. Both of the villages are not accessible in game. It is uncertain if these settlements belong to the municipality of Alivieska or not.
Roads [ ]
Highway [ ]
Speed limit, priority road and road number signs next to the highway.
The highway going round Alivieska is number 70, which makes it class II main road. Class II main road number signs are marked with black numbers on a yellow background and the numbers 40–99 are reserved for them. Currently there is no road 70, but it did exist from 1996 to 2010, it was located in eastern Finland, going from Tohmajärvi to the Russian border. Earlier, from 1938 to the late 1970’s the road number 70 was between Joensuu and Varkaus, also in eastern Finland.
Dirt roads [ ]
The crossroads southeast of Kesselinperä.
The dirt roads of Alivieska are narrow paths which can be driven or walked on in order to reach various places around the lake. The roads are winding and treacherous, requiring utmost care and concentration from the player regardless of the vehicle used to navigate them.
